Janice’s all-time favourite song is Good Grace by Hillsong United. It happens to be one of the few songs she doesn’t mind playing on repeat. The song never caught up with me until recently, when the gift of God’s grace was highlighted to me. The chorus goes like this: Don’t let your heart be troubled, Hold your head up high, Don’t fear no evil, Fix your eyes on this one truth, God is madly in love with you, Take courage, Hold on, Be strong, Remember where our help comes from. The song talks about the courage and confidence we have in God because of God’s good grace. There are countless mentions of the word Grace in Paul’s letters. We casually use it when asked about how we are; we say “by God’s grace”. I found myself so intrigued by it and started asking all these questions.
What is grace even? Why is it all over the New Testament? How does it affect our life? What’s the power behind it, and how do we access it to get the full benefit of it. I thought to myself, if there is anything more I could be getting out of the grace of God, I don’t want to miss out. I want to get everything that the grace of God has to offer me.
Grace is the unmerited favour and blessings of God. It is God pouring and showering us with all of Him when we don’t deserve it, and most times, we haven’t even asked for it. Out of the fullness of God, He chooses to nourish and replenish us, and this has nothing to do with anything we have done. God’s grace is given in abundance so you can have complete sufficiency in everything you do, regardless of your circumstances or your life situation. God makes His grace available to fill any area of lack so you can live in abundance.
And God is able to make all grace [every favor and earthly blessing] come in abundance to you, so that you may always [under all circumstances, regardless of the need] have complete sufficiency in everything [being completely self-sufficient in Him], and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity.
2 Corinthians 9:8 AMP
God is perfect and holy, and He cannot live with sin. Hence when Adam and Eve brought sin into God’s holy garden, they had to be cast out, so they do not defile God’s holy garden. Sin became a ruler of the world, and God and man’s relationship was broken. God set out a plan to restore man to himself, which involved a sacrifice. Jesus was the sacrifice and the reconciler whose death repaired God and man’s broken relationship. God sought and chased after man, so He sacrificed his own son to accomplish that. Jesus’s death set us free from the sins that hold us captive and the death we deserve. People are made right with God by his grace, which is a free gift. They are made right with God by being made free from sin through Jesus Christ, Romans 3:24. We are made right with God and have the free gift of life because we believed in Jesus; it has nothing to do with anything we have done or possess. It is so liberating to know that my works and actions are not securing or scoring points for me in heaven; rather, the death and resurrection of Jesus makes me righteous. For by grace, you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, Ephesians 2:8. God offers humanity this free gift that frees us from every form of bondage. Sin can come knocking on my door, but it will have no hold over me because of the freeing gift of God’s grace.
Now you may be asking, ‘so what has this got to do me with me? I already believe in Jesus!’ Just hold that thought. Did you know there is an untapped power in this grace?
Power in His Grace
If God’s grace has enough power to save us from death, then it should have enough power to deliver, provide and, as I like to put it, ‘sort us’ out in all spheres of life. God is a good God, and His grace gives us all things that pertain to life. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly, I will rather boast in my infirmities that the power of Christ may rest upon me, II Corinthians 12:9. The resurrecting power of God that raised Jesus from the dead is available to you to deal with any dead or impossible situation. Every time you say that ‘by the grace of God, you are calling forth power. By saying to yourself that by the grace of God, I’m alive, I can do this, and that you are speaking power over your life, you are pronouncing the power of God. Add faith to that saying and see life spring out all around you. When you feel crushed, conquered, defeated, and you can’t see your way through, know that there is grace available and present to set you free. You cannot win without the grace of God; you cannot overcome without the grace of God. Speak grace over your family and your life and release the power of God to work on your behalf.
Provision in His Grace
God’s grace gives us access to heaven’s resources. We can call on heaven’s resources to come to our aid in our time of need. We get to have heaven back us up by the grace of God. The bible says we are each given gifts and resources according to the grace assigned to us in Romans 12:6. Everything we can do is by His grace, so we cannot hold any sense of entitlement to anything we have; family, children, health, jobs, businesses, finances, and talents. God also gives us the grace to handle whatever we have been assigned. There is a specific type of grace with your name on it, and that grace has a capacity of what you can handle, and you need to walk in the knowledge of the grace assigned to you. With that knowledge, you can command your environment to align with God’s will for your life.
Favour in His Grace
Wherever God has placed you in life, there is favour available for you. God will bring goodness to you and cause people to be good to you even when you don’t deserve it. God has assigned people to be good to you and be a blessing to you. If you don’t find goodness around you or good people around you, spend time in prayer and let God show you who your good people are, the people assigned to speak good things into your life. You don’t need to be people-pleasing, so good will come to you; walk in your purpose, destiny, will and calling. Do what God wants you to do, and everything else will fall in place. That’s why the bible says in Matthew 6:33 that, seek first the kingdom of God and everything else will be added to you. When you walk in His will, power, purpose, unmerited favour will be your portion. God is a good God, and He desires to bring good things into our lives.
Every day you wake up with a fresh breath, know and believe that fresh grace to conquer, grace to be victorious, the grace of abundance is always available to you. That is why Paul always reminded and spoke about God’s grace in his letters. We cannot devalue the power of the grace of God. The next time you are asked how you are doing, and you flip it out there, ‘by God’s grace’, pause for a minute and reflect on what that actually means to you and appreciate its magnitude.
Dear Father, we thank you for your grace that is available to us; to heal, restore and set us free. We thank you that we get to partake in all you have for us by your grace. Let us live with the full assurance that your grace is leading and guiding us in our life journey. Amen!
May you be filled with the Fullness of God and the Power of His Love!
“By God’s grace I’m fine” has always been one of my all time favourite responses, little did I know how powerful the statement is.
The Grace brings salvation and hope. But there’s so much confusion about this topic. It gets twisted from another side. Many people think the grace gives them the license to sin instead of training them to live Godly.
May the Grace of God heal, restore and set us free. Amen!
God bless you
Amen. Thanks for your input. We bless God for His revelation. We pray for all to get a better understanding of the grace so people can fully benefit from it.
So true. Sometimes we use “by God’s grace ” unconsciously. But now I understand the power of the grace of God am declaring.
Thanks for your comment.
GRACE!!! A simple 5-letter word which is so powerful and really enriched. Truly, I always wondered if i really understood my response; “By God’s Grace” to how I fared whenever people asked. Even when things weren’t so good, I would still say, by God’s Grace, hoping things turn around.
I have really been blessed by this message which has really taught me that by calling God’s Grace, I’m calling forth Power💥 and enacting the Power of God to work.
God richly bless you🙏🙏🙏.
Amen🥳. To God be the glory. We thank God for His word and revelations. Let’s move in the power of His grace!
