Is your service due?

He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honour to His name.

It is interesting to see how the human nature just keep moving. As the earth constantly spins on its axis and causes it to move, we humans are also wired to always be on the move. In fact it takes much more effort to keep still than to move; any parent will attest to this, as it’s difficult to keep children still. Likewise when we are idle and not busy about our business, we feel the effect more because our bodies just want to be busy. However for a good reason the Bible encourages us to wait and be still. There are numerous verses that tells us to rest, because the soul can be restored if it’s found in a restful place.

Strength in scarcity

11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:11-13 (NLT)

We all love Philippians 4:13. This famous verse tells us we can do everything through the strength of God. But the amazing thing I found in this chapter was the preceding verses; in some of which Paul talked about contentment. He was talking about the secret to contentment; following which he said he can do all things. You would think that Paul was in the middle of his biggest breakthrough when he spoke this, but rather Paul was locked away in prison and yet he had the frame of mind to say that he can do all things through Christ because he had the secret to contentment.

My family and I went away camping at Newday festival. During one of the nights I woke up and unable to drift back to sleep I decided to run through my devotion and I stumbled upon this Proverbs.
